Juggernaut Bust

A Juggernaut bust and a first real go at baked-in lighting — cool blue rim from the upper left, warm coral from below right, painted more like an illustration than a sculpture.

I’d been wanting to add Juggernaut to the mix for a while. I really dig @eastman3d’s sculpt, so I prepped and primed him and got a quick photo shoot in before getting to work.

The Light Study

This thing is massive. The shoulders alone are a painting puzzle, and that helmet with the torn edge was going to be fun to work through. Before any paint went down, I shot him primed under a few lighting setups to figure out where I wanted the light to hit and where it should fall into shadow.

I was still riding the brushwork-vs-airbrush tension from the Doom bust and curious where this one would land.

The Finished Piece

I used him to try my hand at some baked-in lighting for the first time. I went with warm and cool sources to push the rim lighting: cool blue from the upper left, warm coral from below right.

It made me think about the piece more like an illustration than a sculpture, planning where the light hits and where it falls off rather than just lighting the model evenly. Pretty pumped with how he turned out.
